Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
This policy explains what personal data Perfect Postcode (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and your rights over it. Perfect Postcode is operated by András Schmelczer, who is the data controller for your personal data. We handle personal data under UK data-protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Contact: support@perfect-postcode.co.uk; a postal address is available on request.
1. What we collect
- Account data: your email address, a hashed password (or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google), newsletter preference and access status.
- Purchase records: what you bought and when. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your card details.
- Things you create: saved searches, shared links and their settings. Saved searches require access to your account. Anyone with a share link can view the shared search without signing in, including people the link is forwarded to. Shared links are unlisted and marked not to be indexed; this is not access control.
- AI search queries: the text you type into the AI search is processed to generate filters and logged with your account so we can debug and improve the feature.
- Public-page analytics: Plausible pageviews and usage events on public pages. Dashboard, account, saved-search, invitation, password-reset and shared-search views and events are excluded. Analytics page and link URLs omit query strings and fragments; referrers contain only the origin.
- Service metrics: session duration, filter counts, entry paths and referring domains, including during dashboard use. These metrics do not include filter values or map coordinates. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent) are kept for security.
- Error reports: we use the Sentry SDK to send technical error reports to our Sentry-compatible Bugsink service at bugs.schmelczer.dev. Reports can include error messages, stack traces, page URLs, browser and device details, and diagnostic events leading up to an error. The reporting server also receives your IP address when your browser connects to it.
2. How we use it
- To provide and secure the service, including signing you in and remembering your saved work (performance of contract).
- To process payments and keep the records tax law requires (legal obligation).
- To answer support requests (performance of contract).
- To send the newsletter, only if you opted in; every email includes an unsubscribe link (consent).
- To understand how features are used and improve them, using aggregated analytics and logged AI queries (legitimate interests).
- To diagnose and fix faults and keep the service reliable, using technical error reports (legitimate interests).
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data. We use a small number of processors to run the service:
- Stripe: payment processing.
- Google: sign-in (if you choose Google OAuth), embedded Maps/Street View imagery, and the Gemini API which processes the text of AI searches.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers that run our servers and store backups.
- Error-reporting infrastructure at bugs.schmelczer.dev: receives technical reports sent by the Sentry SDK, including connection IP addresses, so we can investigate faults.
4. International transfers
Some processors (such as Stripe and Google) process data outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers rely on UK adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
5. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers. Your browser’s local storage holds your sign-in token and preferences (theme, language, tutorial progress, last map view). Embedded Google content (Street View, sign-in) may set its own cookies under Google’s policies.
6. Retention
Account data is kept while your account exists and deleted when you ask us to close it. Server logs are kept for a short period for security. Purchase records are kept for as long as tax law requires (typically six years).
7. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to processing, and receive your data in a portable format. Email support@perfect-postcode.co.uk and we will respond promptly. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Children
The service is aimed at home buyers and renters and is not directed at children under 16.
9. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes here and update the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site or by email.
